After serving the Este family in Ferrara, he returned to Vienna, and in his later years was employed at the Naples residence of Francisco Luis y Castro, a Spanish nobleman. Another master musician, Giovanni Sanzoni (1593-1648), born in Venice, made a name for himself as a cornet, sackbutto, and bassoonist in St. Mark's Basilica, and later served in the chapel of Ferdinand II in Graz, where he left behind motets and other works. Here is an album that celebrates two of the most famous Italian musicians of the Renaissance, and includes motets and instrumental ensembles of the period that they would have played on the cornet.Elegant melodies and gorgeous sound patterns are reproduced by contemporary virtuoso Lambert Corson and the members of In Alto, which he presides over.
