Like Ginastera, Villa-Lobos and Chavez before him, he continues the tradition of musical exchange between Europe and Latin America that has flourished since the early twentieth century, and his richly coloured works have attracted wide attention.\n\nThis album presents three works by Benzecry, including the song cycle he composed for the coloratura soprano Ayako Tanaka. Captivated by her voice, Benzecry wrote songs that exploit both its delicacy and its extraordinary technique, taking love, the origins of existence and sacred rivers as his motifs and fusing Japanese and Argentinian culture.\nThe Violin Concerto weaves in folk motifs and rhythms of South America, while the Clarinet Concerto invites the listener into the South America of the pre-conquest era. The violin soloist is the principal concertmaster of the Teatro Colon, and the clarinet soloist is principal clarinet of the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra.\n\n\"Mr Benzecry drew inspiration from my voice and composed and dedicated this song cycle to me; it is his fifth dedication, following Gautier Capucon, Nemanja Radulovic, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Lang Lang. In 1999 he was awarded a First Prize with unanimous decision in composition at the Conservatoire de Paris. He has written a large body of music, including three symphonies, and in 2010 attracted international attention with \"Rituales Amerindios\", a triptych commissioned by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra depicting the Aztec, Mayan and Inca civilisations.
