Her repertoire was characterized by songs from the Romantic period, in which she was active, and her distinctive style of ornamentation in each song became a model for the prima donnas who later sang Rossini, Bellini, and Donizetti. The singer on this album is Crowe, a native of the United States who made her debut in 1992 as a professional male soprano, one of the rarest in the world. She beautifully handles high notes as well as a female soprano and beautifully recreates the gorgeous world of Verruti, who was loved by writers such as Stendhal and Mary Shelley, as well as the Duke of Wellington.
