Vivaldi's RV 401 is a beautiful and enigmatic masterpiece and stands out among the 27 cello concertos he wrote. Haydn's concerto, written in 1763 in his Eisenstadt retreat, is said to have a similar but contrasting style to that of his contemporary Boccherini. Although Boccherini's only famous piece, compared to Haydn, is the string quintet called \"Menuetto,\" he was himself an acclaimed cellist and left many works for the cello, making him a familiar composer to cello students. Here Polo plays the baroque cello.
