For Brahms, the \"string quartet\" genre was the most rigorous of all chamber music genres, and perhaps because of his awareness of his great predecessor Beethoven, he was cautious enough to write more than 20 studies before his first work was created, but discarded them all. Perhaps because of this, after the first and second works, which were finally published in 1873, Brahms composed only the third in 1875, and never wrote another string quartet after that. The Strada Quartet, with Huschnure, Nemtanu, Bertheau, and Salk as members, clearly distinguishes between the dramatic character of No. 1, the soft No. 2, and the bright, light-hearted No. 3, and adds a youthful expression to the three works to give a fresh performance. The addition of Le Sage's piano quintuplets makes for a fresh performance. The fluidity of the Piano Quintet with the addition of Le Sage is also superb.
