He learned notation from his grandmother and a local teacher, absorbed the Faroese folk song and chant tradition, and traveled to Norway and Denmark, eventually studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. In 2002, he composed the first symphony by a Fellow and won the Nordic Council Music Prize. In this world premiere recording of the entire symphony, we hear four works that reflect the natural beauty of their homeland and are full of Rasmussen's characteristic vigor and energy. Performed by the talented Faroese ensemble Aldubaran and viola player Jakup Lützen, the recording was made in the Faroese capital.
