Although today he is best known as the author of \"The Clown's Gallop,\" at the time he was instrumental in establishing the \"Union of Soviet Federal Composers\" in Moscow, and he was a government-approved artist who enjoyed great power in the world of composition without being subject to the notorious \"Zidanov criticism. He left many educational works, and this \"24 Preludes\" is also known as a work of educational value, with a familiar tune that is in the vein of Chopin and Scriabin, but with the essence of Russian folk music added throughout, and with many attempts to master the piano technique. The Preludes and Fugues are in the tradition of J.S. Bach, but each piece has its own title.
