However, the musical composition—including the overture—is of such high quality that its popularity has never waned, as evidenced by the various revised versions that have been staged over the years. In this recording, under the robust baton of Konstantin Trinks conducting the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the highlights include Jacqueline Wagner’s crystalline singing as Oryante and Kronthaler’s intense, dramatic performance as her rival, Eglantine. The male cast surrounding them is equally flawless, and in particular, Foster-Williams’s all-out performance as Risiardo injects excitement into the story.
