It is one of Beethoven’s most popular works. The “Trio” Op. 11 is an approachable piece nicknamed “Gassenhauer” (a popular song or “street song”) because the third movement incorporates the melody of an aria from Joseph Weikle’s popular opera *The Sailor’s Love*. Beethoven was quick to incorporate melodies from popular operas into his compositions. The Berklee Ensemble is composed of young members of the Southbank Sinfonia.
