His earlier releases of sonatas by Brahms, Franck and Debussy (MIRARE) were selected for the Diapason d'Or 2017, and his album (SONY) with trio with Jan Misa and Adam Laloum, released in early 2019, also received high praise. Pianist Vito is also well-known for his visits to Japan, including La Folle Journée. This album contains some of Russia's most famous cello pieces, but it also includes works by composers who have been at the mercy of the politics of their home countries, such as Rachmaninoff, who fled to the West to avoid the rise of socialism, and Shostakovich, who could not devote himself to composition as he wished because of the purges by the regime. Denissov also continued to respond to the contemporary music of the West against the backdrop of socialist realism. Julien Laferriere and Vito give us a beautiful and demanding performance, deeply attuned to the works and their authors, the pinnacle of cello music in the 20th century.
