In the midst of a succession of releases befitting the anniversary year, Alpha, an up-and-coming French label known worldwide, presents a new recording that is more than just a collection of rare repertoire. The success of \"Orphée in Hell\" (1858) is a prime example of how French composer Offenbach's masterpiece comedies were performed during the Second Empire, or 1850s, when the \"Orphee in Hell\" was the most popular opera in the world. However, this German-born composer, like Chopin and Donizetti, came to Paris as early as the 1830s. This disc includes his early ambitious work \"Six Fables\" (sung by Carine Déaye, who has made remarkable progress in recent years!) ), as well as the dances that provided the young Offenbach with his daily bread. This is an ideal program to trace the history of Offenbach's activities, including a number of rare overtures. The orchestra of the opera house in Rouen (Normandy, north of Paris), which has been attracting more and more attention in recent years for its new approach, gives a fine performance with an eye on period interpretations.
