He swears revenge on Guido to regain his throne and his beloved Elisa... In 1818, \"Enrico of Borgogna,\" an ambitious opera by the 21-year-old Donizetti, was premiered at the Teatro San Luca in Venice. Although Donizetti had written several operas before, this was the first time his own work was performed in a theater, and he was delighted by the critical acclaim. The production was a unique play-within-a-play in which director Silvia Paoli transported the audience to 19th-century Italy with a dash of humor. Bonitatibus sings Enrico, Ganassi's dazzling coloratura as Elisa, and Secgapane's powerful singing as Guido are highlights. Marquis Marquis, who leads the Academia Montis Regalis with period instruments, is also a masterful music maker.
