In addition to the main “Symphonie fantastique,” the program is packed with the overture to “Le Corsaire,” “The Death of Cleopatra” featuring French mezzo-soprano Lucile Richard, and two pieces from *Les Troyens*. While the treatment of the harp, cornet, and low brass in the second movement of the “Symphonie fantastique” generally follows the style of the previous release, there are a couple of surprising touches—including in the prologue—that stand out… The dynamic performance itself is superb, but the visual appeal of the instruments, the recording venue, and the beauty of the footage are also noteworthy, making this a video production of exceptionally high quality.
