In Act II, set in the ruins of the factory, the female workers who died after years of grueling labor become Wilis; they summon Giselle’s spirit, brutally slaughter Hilarion, and even lay their hands on Albrecht. The story’s themes—love, hatred, revenge, and forgiveness—are posed as sharp questions to us in the modern world.
