Preserved in this church—where Cavalieri’s *Drama of the Soul and the Body* was first performed in 1600—is an early 17th-century manuscript containing seven psalms of unknown composition known as the “Psalms of the Sacrament of Confession.” These are written in the monodic recitativo cantando form (a form of singing now considered standard, in which the melody and accompaniment are clearly distinguished and the lyrics are easily audible), reminiscent of early opera melodies; at the time, this was revolutionary compared to the polyphonic music that had come before. Furthermore, the use of dissonances—which still sound innovative today—has had a major influence on the concept and performance of this album. Corson brings together a vocal ensemble led by Alice, the beloved daughter of renowned organist Bernard Focleur, and an instrumental ensemble featuring no fewer than four trombones (sackbuts). While strictly adhering to the original score, he presents a fresh performance that also incorporates original interpretations in keeping with the customs of the time.\nNaxos Japan\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Ricercar","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":53525290516769,"sku":"4589538738013","price":3490.0,"currency_code":"JPY","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/4589538738013.jpg?v=1789730684","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/products\/4589538738013","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
