In the Neapolitan music school, especially the strong interest in Porpora (2019 is the 333rd anniversary of his birth) has become more and more evident in recent years, and now Arcana, a prestigious Italian label for ancient music, has released a brilliant new recording! The group, which is based in Lyon, one of France's foremost centers of ancient music, has collaborated with musicians from other fields, including folk music, in this carefully selected collection of arias that shows how Porpora competed with Handel in 18th century London, a city full of business rivals. The soloist is the brilliant Bridelli, who has risen to the forefront of European opera within a few years with an astonishingly broad range from Baroque opera to Rossini, Dvorak, and Rota ....... The beauty of the jacket, with its image of a \"confrontation,\" is sure to impress you with the new level of his performance on the ancient instruments.
