Seizing this opportunity, King Ufu frames Lazuri as the criminal, but just then, the fortune-teller Shiroko appears. Shiroko prophesied that “the fates of the king and Lazuli are bound together; if one loses his life, the other will meet the same fate,” so King Uhu is unable to carry out the execution. However, due to a scheme by the envoy Ellison, Lazuli is shot...\n\nIn the late 1800s, when Offenbach was producing a series of witty operettas, other composers inspired by him also released a succession of entertaining works. Chabrier’s *L’Étoile* is one such work. The one-act comic opera *Fisch-Ton-Kan*, composed around 1864, was based on a libretto by Chabrier’s friend, Verlaine. However, after hearing it, Luterier and Van Lo (also friends) felt that “the lyrics might be too bold,” so they wrote a new libretto, and Chabrier composed this comic opera, *L’Étoile*.
