The title role of Wozzeck is sung by British baritone Christopher Maltman. Active on stages around the world—including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, the Bavarian State Opera, and the Berlin State Opera—he is also known for his masterful renditions of German lieder, and in this production of *Wozzeck*, he vividly portrays a sensitive man’s descent into madness through his singing. The role of Marie is played by the Dutch soprano Westbroek, known for her powerful voice, who masterfully portrays the woman’s fluctuating psyche.
