Syuya Okino (KYOTOJAZZMASSIVE), who continues to captivate dance floors around the world, has finally released the long-awaited first vinyl edition of his second solo album. Titled Destiny, the album is themed around “JAZZ MEETS BOOGIE” and features an equal mix of covers and original compositions. This ambitious work by Shuya Okino not only demonstrates his skill as a DJ but also showcases his ability to take on the greats as a composer. On the radio show “WORLDWIDE” hosted by Gilles Peterson, one of the world’s top DJs, the track “Still In Love” was selected as the No. 2 song of the year for 2010. House legend Danny Krivit also played “Still In Love” heavily. Licensed by Defected, one of the UK’s leading labels, and released as a single via its sub-label Glitterbox, “Still In Love” became a massive hit once again in the 2020s. This album, Destiny, was released in 2011—four years after UNITEDLEGENDS, which was created entirely through email exchanges with 10 guest vocalists and 10 guest producers, and following the release of two remix albums from that project. Its one-of-a-kind sound, fusing the intellect of jazz with the pleasure of boogie, spans soul, funk, R&B, dance classics, and even extends to techno and disco-dub. A bold underlying theme of the project was to have five vocalists each perform one original and one cover song, allowing listeners to compare the artist’s compositional skills with those of past greats. This historic masterpiece of the club jazz/crossover scene is finally being released on vinyl after 15 years. The album that cemented Shuya Okino’s growing popularity in Europe—alongside his live performances with KyotoJazzMassive—is now being revived.
