George Benson, a legend who has earned an unshakeable reputation as one of the greatest jazz guitarists of all time, has reissued his early solo career releases on A&M/CTI in a 2-in-1 CD format. Shape Of Things To Come" was produced by Creed Taylor and arranged by Don Sebesky and recorded in 1968. It features veteran players such as Ron Carter and Herbie Hancock, and features standard numbers and original songs in a mellow, sophisticated crossover sound that was cutting-edge at the time.Includes the popular number "Face It Boy, It's Over," later sampled by Pete Rock and others. Tell It Like It Is," recorded in 1969, features R&B numbers such as Booker T. and the M.G.'s cover of "Soul Limbo," Jerry Butler's "Are You Happy? Wilson Pickett's well-known "Land Of 1000 Dances" and other R&B numbers. The powerful Latin rock sound of arranger Marty Scherer, who is known for his work with Mongo Santamaria, and Benson's playing are the best part of this album. Includes obi commentary.
