20 years have passed since their first collaboration. The matured duo performance, SYMBIOSIS - symbiosis Hideo Ichikawa has chosen to perform with Sunao Takeuchi on 9 lyrical tracks, including the first original compositions recorded together. A remarkable duo work by veteran saxophonist Sunao Takeuchi and heavyweight pianist Hideo Ichikawa. Their first collaboration was 20 years ago. After the death of Hidehiko Matsumoto, the band members of the quartet including Ichikawa got together, and Nao Takeuchi was featured as a tenor player. Although there is a 10-year age difference between the two, they have performed together from time to time since then. Takeuchi participated in Hideo Ichikawa and Hideo Yamaki's twin-headed leader work "On the other side of Sundown" in 2008, and Ichikawa participated in Nao Takeuchi's "Ballads" in 2017. Since then, they have been performing together more frequently, and in 2022, when the time was ripe, they completed this Duo work with full anticipation. The title is "SYMBIOSIS. The title is the name of one of Ichikawa's original compositions, but it also means "symbiosis" and symbolizes the album. For this live recording, Ichikawa specially suggested songs that he had composed in the past, but had never recorded before because he envisioned Takeuchi's performance of them.In addition to selecting music from past performances, Takeuchi also envisioned and selected music for a two-piece performance with Ichikawa, who is also considered a heroic figure. The duo, who deeply respect each other from the selection of music, overlap each other's history and inspire each other at the same moment, and their performance is like a drama. The duo weaves a sound space with a slow to medium tempo that is both generous and sensitive, and also nostalgic. In addition to American standards, the album includes music by Michel Petrucciani and Fred Hersch. Coltrane's Dear Lord is full of prayer.
