This is a live recording of the Prelude to Mussorgsky's opera \"Khovanshchina\" and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 \"Pathetique\", conducted by Evgeny Svetlanov and performed by the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Tanztheater des Francophones (RTBF) at the Salle Pleyel, Paris, May 10, 1983.\n\n\n\nSvetlanov was a popular conductor among Japanese fans, appearing frequently at NHK Symphony Orchestra subscription concerts from the 1990s until his later years. This performance was made in 1983, when Svetlanov was in his mid-50s. Expectations are high for Svetlanov's performance of Russian works from his home country, as well as Tchaikovsky and Mussorgsky, which are his strongest points.\n\n\n\nMussorgsky's unfinished opera \"Khovanshchina.It was performed with orchestrations and supplements by Rimsky=Korsakov and later rearranged by Shostakovich based on the composer's original text. The prelude is entitled \"Dawn on the Moscow River\" and is often performed alone.
