Since there are two versions of the Berlin Philharmonic’s “Eroica” from December 1952, attention tends to focus on those. However, in terms of overall sound quality—including dynamic range—this 1950 recording is superior to both of the 1952 versions, and it might even be considered the best of the three. Regardless of which is better, both *Alceste* and *Eroica* allow listeners to experience the essence of Furtwängler and the Berlin Philharmonic.
