Yasuo Maruyama, celloBetraduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 1987, Yasuo Maruyama won the first prize at the 58th Japan Music Competition in 1989, and was also awarded the Masuzawa Prize and a special prize at the same competition.He won the third prize and a special prize at the Premio Paolo Borciani String Quartet International Competition (Italy), a special prize in the cello section at the Markneukirchen International Instrumental Music Competition (Germany), the second prize and the Asahi Beer Prize at the Tokyo International Music Competition, the first prize and a special prize at the 2nd Japan Chamber Music Competition. In September 1992, he began studying at the Berlin University of the Arts as an overseas trainee of the Agency for Cultural Affairs, receiving the highest diploma. He is currently active as a soloist and chamber musician, and has been planning a series of concerts that will expand the possibilities of the cello. He is a member of the Kioi Hall Chamber Orchestra and the Tokyo Mitaka Philharmonia (first chair), and leader of the string quartet Virtus Quartet and the Super Cello Ensemble Tokyo.
