Originally located in the Grand Hall of the Palais de Chaillot in Paris—opposite the Eiffel Tower—it was moved to Lyon in 1977 and underwent further restoration in 2013, restoring it to its former glory. This historic organ is known for having hosted the premieres of numerous masterpieces, and great composers such as Franck, Dupré, and Messiaen have performed on it. It is truly a monumental instrument; in fact, Saint-Saëns’ (1835–1921) masterpieces, “Symphony No. 3” and “The Cypress and the Laurel,” were both premiered in France on this very organ.
