Here is the great conductor Erich Reinsdorf (1912-1993). His fiery Mahler and R. Strauss are truly eye-opening performances. Born into a Jewish family in Vienna, Reinsdorf began his musical studies at the age of five. At the time of his birth, Vienna was still talking about Mahler, who had died eight months earlier. From 1934 to 1937, Reinsdorf was an assistant to Walter and Toscanini at the Salzburg Festival, and in 1937 he conducted Die Walküre at the Metropolitan Opera. That same year he was offered the position of assistant conductor at the Metropolitan Opera, but a few months later his native Austria was occupied by Nazi Germany, and he was naturalized in the United States in 1942.In the 1960s, with the advent of the LP, which made longer recordings possible, he recorded all of Mahler's symphonies (except for No. 4) for RCA Victor in superb recordings, and led the Mahler boom, This recording was a great achievement that ushered in the Mahler boom. This concert was left over from that era. This is the perfect video to reacquaint yourself with this great conductor who has been overshadowed by Karajan and Bernstein.
