From her self-cover project, akiko reimagines two of her popular original tracks. Together with Yota Kobayashi (of Chozen Lee and The Bang Attack), Toshiya Mori (leader of Echo United), and Isao Tsukamoto, she opens a new chapter in lovers’ reggae and lovers’ rock. As part of the self-cover project currently underway to mark her 25th anniversary, a 7-inch vinyl record featuring two tracks reimagined by akiko from a Lovers Rock/Lovers Reggae perspective is now available. Side A, “Do You Know?”, is a self-cover of the original ballad released in 2002. Composed by Yoshito Tanaka with lyrics by akiko, this track has been reimagined with a Lovers Rock arrangement by guitarist Yota Kobayashi, known for his work with Chozen Lee and The Bang Attack, Reggae Disco Rockers, and others. With its retro texture and sweet, bittersweet melody, it resonates beautifully, making it the perfect track for summer. The B-side, "I Miss You," is a signature ballad by akiko that has been beloved both domestically and internationally since its release in 2004. It has been reimagined as a lovers' reggae track through a new session featuring Toshiya Mori (head of [EchoUnited]), guitarist Isao Tsukamoto (known for his work with the Netanders and the Piranians), and akiko herself. Their deep understanding of Jamaican music—including ska, rocksteady, and roots—combined with their individual sensibilities, gives the track a distinct character that sets it apart from the original.
