Uehata’s works are approachable and memorable, yet they demand extraordinary technical skill from the performer. Akiko Sakikawa’s exceptional playing, combined with the tuning adjusted for each piece to bring out the best in the music, creates unforgettable melodies and resonances. This CD is like a treasure chest of songs you’ll want to keep close at hand.\nThe sixth track, “NIKE,” was inspired by Yoshio Yagi’s sculpture “Hatching Nike.” The harpsichord charmingly recreates the sound of Nike (the winged goddess) pecking at her shell from within the egg.
