Throughout his long career, the number of leader albums he's released, including this one, can be counted on one hand. However, after releasing 'Live at Just in Time' in 2009—his first leader album in a remarkable 23 years—he began producing leader albums consistently. He released 'Ithought about You' in 2013. Now, his new album arrives after a two-year hiatus.

Notably, this album features drummer Akira Tana, who has built a brilliant career primarily on America's West Coast. While the previous album's drummer, Yoshito Eto, despite a significant generational gap with Takeda, delivered a performance worthy of a young musician's first call, Tana's rhythms—forged from creating the cool West Coast sound—exhibit exceptional swing and razor-sharp precision.

Of course, the beauty of the guitar goes without saying. The guitar playing, imbued with the essence of legends like Kenny Burrell and Wes Montgomery, is the very definition of jazz guitar. The performance, featuring phrases that truly sing and harmonies that intertwine, carries the seasoned elegance of veterans, evoking the atmosphere of the golden age of modern jazz from the 50s and 60s. And noteworthy is that this work was recorded using only a pair of stereo microphones once again. While many such recordings utilize multi-track recording, allowing for subsequent mixing to balance or correct elements, this work precisely captures the optimal balance. It leaves no room for compromise or correction, resulting in a recording with an outstanding live feel. This is jazz at its core. Despite the inherent difficulty of this approach, the recording delivers a sense of presence that makes you feel as if you're right there, adding another layer of appreciation.

Opening with Wes's classic "Somethin' Like Bags," featuring a bouncing rhythm and octave-based approach, the album presents nine tracks. The selection includes soulful compositions by Jimmy Forrest, an unexpectedly Latin-infused arrangement of "Like Someone in Love," and pieces by renowned composers like Jobim and Toots Thielemans. The romantic and dreamlike final song, "If You Could See Me Now," which closes the show, is also deeply satisfying.

Tracklisting:

1.Somethin' Like Bags
2.Night Train
3.Like Someone in Love
4.How high the Moon
5.Corcovad
6.Love for Sale
7.Bluesette
8.Our Delight
9.If you could see me now
