Description:
In 1963, when Kennedy was President of the United States.... The Beatles had not yet made it to the United States. This is Dylan's last live performance before he was dubbed the "Folk God" at the first annual Brandeis Folk Festival, May 10-11, 1963, at the prestigious Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. This rare tape is a line recording from the mixing desk of Rolling Stone magazine co-founder Ralph J. Gleason, who owned the 7-inch open reel. It had been sitting in his basement for over 40 years, and his son stumbled across it while cleaning out the house, and it was in tip-top condition. The voice of a fresh young Bob Dylan just before his 22nd birthday on May 24th of that year. After half a century (48 years), it has finally been officially released! Shortly after, "Freewheelin'" was released, PPM's "Blowin' in the Wind" became a big hit, the first appearance at the Newport Folk Festival, and on August 28, over 200,000 people attended the "March on Washington" calling for the abolition of racial discrimination and Dr. King's famous speech "I Have a Dream" was delivered. It was just a "changing times" moment.
