This is the ultimate compilation! Rubinstein, Kissin, Luisada, Gilels, Klibern, Ax… A great-value compilation packed to the brim with Chopin’s greatest masterpieces and legendary performances by a constellation of renowned Chopin pianists, brought together through the combined efforts of two prestigious labels. Produced as a joint project between the prestigious classical labels RCA and Sony Classical, this set features a carefully curated selection of 22 of Chopin’s greatest works, generously packaged across two CDs. The selection traces the evolution of Chopin interpretation throughout the 20th century, ranging from Rubinstein’s historic 1946 recording of the “Lullaby” to Kissin’s 1999 performance of “Raindrops.” Centered around eight masterful performances by Rubinstein—hailed as “the greatest Chopin pianist of the 20th century”—the collection also features rare recordings that are difficult to find elsewhere, such as waltzes by Brilovsky, who played “the most aristocratic Chopin,” and two nocturnes by Fu Tsong. It also includes Chopin’s “Raindrop” by Kissin—which is being used in a compilation for the first time— —which is being included in a compilation for the first time—as well as the Waltz No. 7 from Keiber’s first solo album, which caused a sensation thanks to Nobuyuki Tsujii’s performance. The collection also features Achs playing on the legendary Erard piano used by Chopin during his lifetime, as well as a lavish collaboration featuring Yo-Yo Ma in a piano trio!
