Perfect sound and vocals!\n\nGeorge Benson was born in Pittsburgh in 1943. Influenced by Wes Montgomery, he began performing professionally in clubs at the age of 10. In the 1960s, he made a name for himself in organist Jack McDuff’s band, and through his experience in the soul-jazz scene, he established himself as a guitarist who combines the depth of the blues with the sophistication of jazz. His first solo album was 1964’s *The New Boss Guitar*. In the 1970s, he moved toward a crossover style with CTI, developing an urban sound that boldly incorporated strings on albums such as 1972’s *White Rabbit* and 1974’s *Bad Benson*. Then, in 1976, *Breezin’* brought him worldwide success, and he won a Grammy Award for “This Masquerade.” He became a rare artist highly acclaimed for both his guitar playing and his vocals. In the 1980s, he released a string of hits such as “Give Me the Night” and “Turn Your Love Around,” reaching the top of the pop charts—an unusual feat for a jazz guitarist. From the 1990s onward, he established a mature style characterized by reinterpretations of jazz standards and smooth jazz.
