After moving to New York in 1981 and studying at the Juilliard School, she joined the group Steps Ahead, featuring Michael Brecker. In 1984, she released *Amanda* with her former husband, Randy Brecker. She subsequently released a steady stream of solo albums, beginning with *Eliane Elias Plays Jobim* (1990) on Blue Note, gaining popularity for her sound that fused jazz and Brazilian music. Her piano album *Solos and Duets* (1995), recorded with Herbie Hancock, earned her a Grammy nomination. Other notable works include the Bill Evans tribute album *Something for You* (2007) and the Chet Baker tribute album *I Thought About You* (2013). In 2021, his collaborative album *Mirror, Mirror* with the late Chick Corea and Chucho Valdés won both a Grammy Award and a Latin Grammy Award.
