The culmination of the Cambre-Lan and Yomiuri Symphony Orchestra, the Japan premiere of the complete version of \"Assisi\" live! This is a rare recording of a performance for which there are almost no competing recordings, and a great masterpiece of a rare age! The Yomiuri Symphony Orchestra and Permanent Conductor Cambre-Land are pleased to present on CD the Japan premiere of the complete version of Messiaen's lengthy opera \"St. Francis of Assisi,\" which was performed live in 2017. This legendary performance was held to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the Yomiuri Symphony Orchestra, and was awarded first place in the \"Concert Top Ten 2017\" project by \"Ongaku no Tomo\" magazine. The Yomiuri Symphony Orchestra also won the 49th (FY2017) Suntory Music Award and the 30th Music Pen Club Music Award in the same year, and this performance of \"Assisi\" was undoubtedly a major factor. Please come and listen to the great achievement that Cambourin, who will enter his last year as the Yomiuri Symphony's Permanent Conductor in 2018, has made in the history of Japanese musical performance.St. Francis of Assisi,\" Messiaen's lifetime great opera, was composed on an unprecedented scale with nine solo singers, nearly 40 percussion instruments, and a 10-part chorus, and was performed for more than four hours. The performance, including an intermission, lasted five and a half hours. The fact that three ondes martenots were required is also typical of Messiaen, and the content is truly out of the ordinary. The concert was very much talked about, as only excerpts of the work had been performed in Japan until now, and now the entire work could be enjoyed at last. Cambourin is a specialist in Messiaen's orchestral works, having made systematic recordings of Messiaen's orchestral works, and has given masterful performances of \"Turangalila Symphony\" and \"Beyond the Flashes\" with the Yomiuri Symphony Orchestra. This \"Assisi\" is also a rare masterpiece backed by a deep understanding of the composer and his work. The performance was given in concert format, but because of this, the performance concentrated on telling the story of the music, and the true value of the work, which is sometimes contemplative, was clearly conveyed. The ALTUS label's recording, trusted by Cambrelin himself, captures the glorious sound of Messiaen's unique sound. The commentary includes a full text of the music and lyrics, as well as an interview with Cambrelin. This is a very valuable complete recording of \"Assisi,\" which is not easily available on CD, including overseas.
