Description:
This is a rare live performance by Barnstorm, the band that Joe Walsh formed during his solo period before he left the James Gang and joined the Eagles! Joe Walsh is a highly acclaimed multi-instrumentalist who can play keyboards, drums, and vocals, not to mention his quality as a guitar player, and is undeniably a big name in his home country of the United States. In Japan, however, he is not very exciting, perhaps due to the image of being a later member of the Eagles and the B-grade quality of the James Gang. However, if you listen to this solo performance, your impression will probably change. It was recorded at the University of Texas on September 24, 1973, with his band, Barnstorm, and broadcast on the famous "King Biscuit Flower Hour" radio program. The program began in February of 1973, so it was an early broadcast. It is also valuable in that it has never been released on CD on the program's label, King Biscuit Flower Hour Records. Walsh left the James Gang in December 1971 after three years with the group.Although he formed his own band, Barnstorm, shortly thereafter, the two albums he released were under Walsh's solo name. The second album, "The Smoker You Drink the Player You Get" (1973), became a #6 hit in the US. The show took place during the second half of the tour that began in June following the album's release, just as the single "Rocky Mountain Way" was climbing the charts. In other words, this is a performance at the height of the barnstorming era. From the slide guitar to the talkbox, you can hear Walsh in his element, playing on a grand scale and with great passion!
