In addition to a sonata brimming with the energy of the young Strauss and Borodin’s sonata—which, though unfinished, at times evokes a Russian atmosphere (this album features M. Goldstein’s completed version)—the album includes two encore pieces that are indispensable for any cellist.\n\n\u003cfriederike kienle\u003e\nFriederike Kienle\nBorn in Stuttgart, Germany. She studied at the Hanover University of Music, the Verdi National Conservatory of Music in Milan, the Fiesole Conservatory, and the Trossingen University of Music, among others. She studied cello under K. Heitz, R. Filippini, D. Geringas, and Sadao Harada. She has won first prizes and other awards at numerous competitions in Germany and abroad. She has also participated in various major music festivals, including the Tanglewood Music Festival. Since 2007, she has been on the faculty at the Iwamizawa Campus of Hokkaido University of Education, where she teaches cello and chamber music while giving concerts throughout Europe and Japan. Since 2011, he has also been honing his skills as a conductor; in addition to leading the Young Hokkaido Philharmonic (YHP), which he founded, in performances of Beethoven’s complete symphonies, he has also begun conducting opera.\n\n\u003cyoko yamada\u003e\nYoko Yamada\nBorn in Kitahiroshima City, Hokkaido. Graduated from Tokyo College of Music High School and Tokyo College of Music (both in the Piano Performance Program). She completed her graduate studies at Tokyo College of Music. She studied at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts and the Trossingen University of Music and the Arts. She was a DAAD scholarship recipient. She studied piano under Satoko Tanimoto, Kazuko Miyazaki, Takashi Hironaka, C. Vickers, and R. Becker. She studied chamber music under Eisuke Tsuchida and A. Merkle. In addition to participating in the Beethovenfest in Bochum, she has given recitals throughout Germany, Austria, and Ukraine. She has performed with the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra and the Young Hokkaido Philharmonic. While maintaining a wide-ranging performance career as a soloist, chamber musician, and accompanist, she is also involved in mentoring the next generation of musicians. She is currently an HAF Artist with the Hokkaido Cultural Foundation.
