He graduated from the Faculty of Economics at Keio University in 1993, then studied with Professor Erzsebet Tusa and completed his graduate studies at the Musashino Academia Musicae in 1995, receiving the Kreutzer Prize as the outstanding piano graduate. His debut recital at Kioi Hall was named by the music press as one of the year's finest recitals by a Japanese artist, establishing him as one of Japan's leading Liszt interpreters. From 1998 he spent two years at the Hochschule fur Musik und Theater Munchen, and while still a student there won the 1999 Grand Prix across all categories at the Bulgarian international competition \"Music and Earth\" - by unanimous decision and with the highest score in the competition's history, a result reported in the Juilliard Journal (USA) and elsewhere. He made his European debut in 1996 at the Budapest Spring Festival with the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra, and has since appeared with the Hungarian Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra on its 1997 Tokyo tour and at the 1998 concert marking the 50th anniversary of the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, broadcast live by satellite to 42 countries. Other appearances include a 2000 subscription concert of the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra; the 100th anniversary concert of the Piano Shinjinkai in 2004, in which he played two Liszt concertos with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra; the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra's 2009 Tokyo concert under Philippe Entremont; and the Liszt Academy Symphony Orchestra's 2009 Tokyo concert. His \"Kemal Gekic x Naoaki Fukui Piano Solo \u0026amp; Duo Recital\" filled the Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall to capacity on two occasions, in 2008 and 2012. His recordings include two solo and concerto discs for GEGA NEW and a duo album with the double bassist Zsolt Tibay for Hungaroton, praised in Gramophone and other journals.
