Yet, while they are not merely works constructed from sound alone, they are pieces that seek to convey something beyond music—something greater than music itself—and as such, they are perhaps deserving of renewed attention today.\nJunichi Konuma (from the liner notes)\n\nAlthough Jolivet is now recognized as one of the leading composers of the 20th century, the number of his works actually available is limited, and this is the only CD featuring a collection of his piano works. In 1996, she graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts and the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique with a First Prize awarded unanimously by the jury. In 1998, she won First Prize at the 3rd Orléans International Piano Competition for 20th-Century Music held in France. While living in France, she maintained an active performance schedule, appearing as a soloist and accompanist on Radio France’s music programs, in addition to performing in various locations. Currently based in Tokyo, she is active throughout Japan as a solo pianist and accompanist. She has also been involved in numerous Japanese premieres. To date, she has expanded her scope of activities by participating in performances in Germany and Venezuela as a member of the Tokyo Sinfonietta, and by performing Luciano Berio’s *Sequenza* at Chion-in Temple as part of the Agency for Cultural Affairs’ International Festival of Performing Arts. She is a member of Trio de Jambou, Trio Liberté, and Ensemblesans-limite.\nShe currently serves as a part-time lecturer at the Tokyo University of the Arts, Tokyo College of Music, and Shobi Gakuen.\nIn addition to performing throughout Japan, he is active in the field of chamber music and as the pianist for the Tokyo Sinfonietta.
