Currently a senior at Toho Gakuen School of Music, she transcends the boundaries of classical music and has also appeared in TV commercials, music programs, and other television media, making her one of the most talked-about young female cellists today. This CD features a selection of cello pieces, including Mendelssohn’s Cello Sonata No. 2, Saint-Saëns’ “The Swan” and “Allegro Appassionato,” Rachmaninoff’s “Vocalise,” Elgar’s “Salut d’Amour,” and Mendelssohn’s “Song Without Words.” Solidly supported by the vivid piano playing of her collaborator, pianist Yusuke Kikuchi, this recording showcases her rich expressiveness and supple technique. Listeners can enjoy a fulfilling performance from this promising young cellist!\n\n■ Yuki Mizuno\nShe began playing the cello at the age of 9. After graduating from the Music Department of Toho Girls’ High School, she is currently a senior at Toho Gakuen University. She won the Silver Prize in the High School and Above Division at the 7th Izumi no Mori Cello Competition. She studied under Philippe Muller at the Courchevel International Music Academy and the Kyoto French Academy, and performed in their final concerts. She has also attended masterclasses with Alto Noras, Alain Mounié, Luis Claret, and Tamás Varga. She has performed at the 2009 Suntory Hall 23rd Anniversary Gala Concert; the 2010 Toho Gakuen University Chamber Music Concert featuring students who excelled in school auditions; the Saito Kinen Opera for Youth; the Seiji Ozawa Music Academy Orchestra; and the Minato Mirai New Year’s Eve Concert, among others. In 2011, she held the “Nanae Mimura \u0026amp; Yuki Mizuno Special Concert” at Yamaha Hall as part of the venue’s first-anniversary celebrations. She has performed at the Miyazaki International Music Festival and participated in the Kirishima International Music Festival as a scholarship student. She is currently studying chamber music under Fumio Tokunaga and Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi.
