Realizing that “if I kept going like this, my senses would become completely numb,” she found she needed love songs that depicted real human relationships and encouraged forgiveness—both of others and of herself. Many of the songs were written before 2018, and with mixing completed in May 2021, this was her longest production period to date, culminating in the midst of a world in upheaval. Recorded in isolation with her longtime producer Patrick Hyland, the album as a whole has evolved into a “more up-tempo, dance-oriented” sound.
