He continues to take the podium regularly as its honorary conductor. This video features live recordings of Beethoven’s Symphonies Nos. 6 and 7, performed in 2015 and 2016 at the Gewandhaus Concert Hall, the orchestra’s home venue. From the “Pastoral,” brimming with lyricism and vitality, to Symphony No. 7, which captivates the listener with its tension and drive, Bromsstedt’s conducting—with his long arms sweeping wide—exudes a vibrant energy. Bromsstedt will celebrate his 90th birthday in July 2017. To commemorate this, ACCENTUS MUSIC and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra began releasing a series of Bromsstedt’s Beethoven recordings, starting with the “Ninth” performed on New Year’s Eve 2015. This album is the second release in the series. Following this, video recordings of Symphony No. 5 and the Triple Concerto (Faust, Keras, Helmchen) will be released, along with a complete Beethoven symphony collection on CD just before his birthday, celebrating the glory of this great maestro.
