Interesting to play alternately, Ligeti and Beethoven. This is a bagatelle album combining Ligeti and Beethoven. Ligeti's "Musica Ricercata" consists of 11 pieces, 6 of which were arranged for woodwind quintet by the composer himself and titled "6 Bagatelles," so it can be regarded as a collection of pieces that originally have the character of bagatelle. The CD is unique in that it is set with Beethoven's Op.119, which contains the same 11 pieces, alternating one piece at a time: Ligeti, Beethoven, Ligeti, Beethoven, etc. The CD is also available as a set with Beethoven's Op.119, which contains the same 11 pieces. Ligeti explores various rhythms using a single pitch and a limited number of sounds, gradually enriching the language, while Beethoven depicts various mini-articles with a minimum of material. The combination of the two is quite stimulating and interesting, and one is reminded of the new charms of both collections. Schiff has tried this technique in concert, and it seems to have been a very successful approach that led to the CD release. The program ends with Op. 126, a masterpiece that crystallizes Beethoven's late style in a simple form. King International
