The complete Braunfels string quartets by the Minguet Quartet! The Minguet Quartet plays Walter Braunfels, who has a connection to his home city of Cologne! Braunfels' works from the end of the war and the immediate postwar period, when his activities were restricted during the war! The Minguet Quartet, based in Cologne, Germany, has recorded all chamber works written for strings in honor of Walter Braunfels (1882-1954), a man who trained many musicians there and played a decisive role in their art! Active between the two World Wars, Braunfels was widely respected as a composer and pianist, but in 1933 his artistic activities were completely restricted because of his Jewish background. The four works included here were written between 1944 and 1947, at the end of the war and in the immediate postwar period, and especially No. 1, based on the theme of his opera "The Annunciation" (based on Paul Claudel's original), tells the story of those tragic times (one of his sons was killed on the Eastern Front) and his unwavering faith.
