This album is a surprising testament to the strong affinity between works by these two composers, separated by nearly a century.\nMiaskovsky’s Piano Sonata No. 2, characterized by a somber atmosphere that includes a reference to “The Day of Wrath,” and his Piano Sonata No. 3, which eschews Romantic elements and takes on an even more bitter tone. And then there is Bakri’s Piano Sonata No. 3, *Impulsive Sonata*, inspired by Myaskovsky’s Third Sonata and dedicated to his memory.
