A very rare recording is now available on CD: a live recording of the last recital by David Oistrakh (1908-1974), one of the greatest violinists of the 20th century. Oistrakh died on October 24 of that year. One would have thought that five months before his death, Oistrakh would have been playing a deadly music, but instead, we hear a very different, very full violin performance. The violin is magnificent, like a great composer, and is imbued with Oistrakh's characteristic flavor and richness, but at the same time, it has a freshness inspired by the piano of Vadura-Skoda. The two musicians, who are nearly 20 years apart, frequently duoed together, and it is easy to see why. Schubert's D.574, in particular, is a piece of music that will leave the listener in awe of how wonderful it is! The Schubert D.574 in particular is a piece that will leave the listener in awe of how wonderful it is.The recording is in extremely good condition and will be welcomed by many violin lovers.
