However, after embarking on a concert tour of Europe in 1886, where he interacted with local musicians such as Mahler, R. Strauss, and Grieg, Tchaikovsky’s creative drive was reignited, and he composed this Fifth Symphony in one go. Although it did not receive particularly favorable reviews at its premiere, there is no doubt that its rich lyricism, charming waltzes, and the “from tragedy to triumph” narrative were warmly received by audiences.
