After receiving his musical education from his father, he studied under Buxtehude, was recognized as his most outstanding pupil, and served as a violinist and composer at the Copenhagen court. He was subsequently appointed organist in the town of Husum in Schleswig-Holstein in 1689, but reportedly died at the age of 32 due to an accidental injury. Unfortunately, many of his compositions have been lost. Schilt was born in Hanover and studied under Sweelinck.\nKelemén was born in 1957 and studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music and the Schola Cantorum in Basel. He also studied philosophy in Canada and is now a renowned organist and scholar of 17th-century German organ music. His performances do not give the impression that pre-Bach organ music is dull or difficult to understand. In this recording as well, he uses an organ well-suited to these works and, through the SACD’s multichannel sound, incorporates ample reverberation, effectively transforming the entire church into an instrument.
