MESSIAH's 1991 fourth album, a landmark in Swiss thrash/death metal history, is reissued as a 35th Anniversary Deluxe Edition. Mastered by Patrick W. Engel, this two-disc set includes a bonus disc. Within the Swiss scene that also included HELLHAMMER/CELTIC FROST and CORONER, MESSIAH forged its own unique evolution from the mid-1980s, leaving a powerful mark on the underground with early albums like 'Hymn to Abramelin' (1986) and 'Extreme Cold Weather' (1987). This fourth album was the first release after their move to Noise Records, led by Karl Walterbach, and was produced with the lineup of Andy Kaina (vocals), Steve Karrer (drums), Patrick Hersche (bass), and founder Brogi (guitar).Produced by Sven Conquest at Berlin's Sky Trak Studios, this album features significantly more polished production compared to their earlier work and a clearer death metal orientation in its songwriting. As Brogi himself states, this album marked MESSIAH's first production in a "fully professional environment," and its high level of polish attracted a new generation of fans. Andy Kaina's vocals are particularly outstanding, infusing the entire work with a gloomy and maniacal atmosphere through his unique raspy tone and clear expressiveness, transcending mere death metal growls. The title track and "Akasha Chronicle" remain staple live songs to this day, serving as emblematic pieces of this album. This newly released 35th anniversary edition includes additional material: pre-production recordings featuring unreleased tracks and live recordings from 1992-93. It stands as the definitive edition, reaffirming the value of the classic album Choir of Horrors.
