Although Thielemann has also recorded with the Dresden Staatskapelle, his interpretation of Richard Strauss is truly masterful. The role of Ariadne is sung by Soile Isokoski, whose clear, beautiful voice is perfectly suited to Richard Strauss’s music. Sophie Kosh and Daniela Fally also deliver magnificent performances. The role of Bacchus is played by Johan Botta, who passed away suddenly in September 2016. He possessed a brilliant, beautiful voice and was renowned as a heldentenor.
