This film is a combination of two years of his and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra's special concerts at the Theater an der Wien, and offers a unique interpretation of Wagner and Beethoven. The unusual atmosphere of the Beethoven with Backhaus as soloist is particularly famous, but it is also noteworthy that Hiroyuki Iwashiro, who had just made his European debut as an up-and-coming conductor at the time, was seated in the audience. As for Knappertsbusch's performance, nothing more needs to be said. The passionate music produced by his conducting, which is so condensed that even the slightest moment of movement cannot be missed, is sure to capture people's hearts forever.
